September 12th, 2016
It was a busy first week filled with the excitement of making new friends and getting back into learning. The students found their way to their new classes, met their teachers and settled into the rhythm of locks and lockers. Some of us (me included) got lost as we figured out the school’s layout. Fortunately, there was always a friendly face to help us back to the correct location.
I am new here too and want you to know that it has been a fantastic start up at Laurentian. My name is Greg Jespersen and I am the new principal of this wonderfully busy school. I come to you from Lester B Pearson PS and was also the principal at Parkway PS before that. Joining me as vice-principal is Lisa Devall-Martin. Please know that we are always happy and ready to help you. Our doors are open to you and you are welcome to call us for assistance.
A few reminders to help us start the year:
Student drop off and pick up: Please do not use the circular driveway in the front of the school or the school’s parking lot to drop off/pick up your children. Both of these areas are loading zones for school busses and we ask that you avoid them in order to ensure that the students are safe. There is a large parking lot at the shopping plaza directly across the street from the school that is a safe and convenient location if you are transporting your child by car.
Meet the Teacher: Please join us on Thursday September 15, 2016 for our Meet the Teacher Open House. The school will be open between 6:30 and 7:30 PM for you to visit and meet your child’s teachers. Please come with your child and have them show you around the school. We will be in our classrooms ready to welcome you and show you where your kids spend their days learning. I look forward to meeting you personally that evening.
We will NOT be able to provide information about the end of year trip for the grade 8 students. We are in the process of finalizing details for the trip and will provide this information to you once it is available.
School Council: The first meeting of this year’s school council will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016. Please consider joining us that evening for a 6:45 PM start in the school Library. All are welcome.
Extra-curricular activities: There are many opportunities that are offered to the students here at Laurentian. Intramural sports, school teams, music, clubs, the list goes on and on. Many of these activities are beginning now. Encourage your child to get involved.
I am looking forward to meeting many of you on Thursday.
Mr. Greg Jespersen
Principal Laurentian Senior Public School
