Thank you WRPS for the very informative parent information session on digital safety in the on-line world.  Some important tips were shared on Wednesday evening.

1. Monitor the applications and chat rooms your teen is using. Any app worth keeping has privacy settings ~ if there are no privacy settings… that’s a red flag for parents!

2. There are some applications that teens are using that are concerning ( KIK, Ask FM and Yik Yak).

3. You need a license and driver training to drive a car. Teens need their parents to monitor the on-line persona that teens are creating. Teens need our help to create a positive digital footprint.

3. Be aware of indexing! Teens share a lot of photos and information and if the privacy settings are not updated and locked ~ photos can be used publicly and in some cases for the wrong websites.

4. Need help: Go to Cybertip.ca,  NeedHelpNow.ca

Set rules with your teen about accessing your teen’s communication: help your child to create a positive digital footprint.

There are parent kits available to help: Safe, Smart and Social website, Light~Bright,~Polite, moblieguardian

Stay tuned for our fall workshop!
