Welcome to Laurentian 2013-2014.
School starts again on September 3, 2013. There will be supervision starting at 8:10 each morning in the school yard outlined by the yellow lines close to the bike racks and from the gym to the portable at the back of the school.
Class lists will be posted on September 3 at 8:00 in the morning for the Grade 8 classes only. These will be posted outside the D and T doors. Once the bell rings at 8:30 Grade 8 students will enter the school and proceed to their homeroom class as indicated on the posted class lists outside. All staff will be wearing a vest so that students can ask for help if they cannot find their homeroom.
Grade 7 students will enter the gym when the bell rings and class lists will be read aloud by homeroom teachers at that time. There will be staff on hand to help any student who is new or who did not hear their name called aloud.
All new students are asked to make sure they have registered in the office starting August 26, 2013.
Bus information will be shared directly with families or you may contact the board office transportation department for more information.
On September 3 pizza will be ordered in the morning to be available for first nutrition break at 10:55. The cost of one slice is $1.50 and this product meets the provincially set nutrition standards. There is both turkey pepperoni and plain cheese pizza available. However, we do recommend that students bring appropriate snacks for both nutrition breaks and not rely on our pizza order. Students are not permitted to leave school property during the school day, unless a standing note is provided regarding students who go home each day for lunch. Our go home lunch is first nutrition break each day.
September 3 is considered a Day 1 but all students will stay with their homeroom for the whole day with no rotary. Wednesday September 4 will be a Day 2 and it will be the first day of rotary for all students.
Friday, September 6 we are planning our first Spirit BBQ so we ask our Lancers to stay tuned to hear more details on September 3 and 4th.
The September Package will come home on the first day and it will contain two packages – one will contain READ ONLY materials, the other will have FORMS TO BE SIGNED and returned to the homeroom teacher asap. This means that parents have homework on the first week of school and we would really appreciate that you take the time to read and complete the September Package as quickly as possible.
Students will receive many details in the first week of school about lockers, planners, gym uniforms, forms, school rules and expectations. We want to get the school year off to a great start and we ask that you take some time each night with your students to help them get organized and engaged at Laurentian.
We try to use this site to update you but we also rely heavily on our Facebook Page (the link is included on this website for easy access). You do not need to be a Facebook user to access the page. We also use Twitter (also included here) to help keep our followers posted from time to time.
School starts at 8:30 each day and is complete at 2:50. Supervision is available from 8:10 until 3:05 each day. Parents are asked NOT to enter the school parking lot for drop off and pick up, but rather use the mall parking lot across the street and have your student cross at the traffic lights. Please help Laurentian to be a safe place for all but following our request for drop off and pick up.
The Laurentian staff has worked hard to prepare for a great start to the school year and we are looking forward to welcoming our grade 8 students back for a second year, and meeting our grade 7 students for the beginning of 2 wonderful years at Laurentian.
